Piers Morgan explodes in fury at ‘gender neutral’ pack of cards with no king or queen

PIERS Morgan reacted with fury to new 'gender neutral' playing cards that have done away with kings and queens.

Upon discovering 23-year-old Dutch card enthusiast Indy Mellink had designed a new pack to address "sexual inequality" within the deck, he wrote on Twitter: "Oh FFS."

He then raged on this morning's GMB that Indy should perhaps devote her time to something meaningful like work on a coronavirus vaccine - but he was scoffed at by co-star Susanna Reid.

Forensic psychology graduate Indy told Reuters the current card system placed women beneath men in the social pecking order.

She said: “If we have this hierarchy that the king is worth more than the queen then this subtle inequality influences people in their daily life because it’s just another way of saying ‘hey, you’re less important'. Even subtle inequalities like this do play a big role.”

In her pack kings, queens and jacks have been replaced by gold, silver and bronze.

The new-look cards have been received enthusiastically in some quarters, with 1,500 having been sold so far.

GMB host Piers often criticises attempts to neutralise long-established gendered terms and practises.

He recently hit out at the changing of fishermen to fisherpeople in a BBC news report, pointing out the industry is made up predominantly of men.

And last year he slammed the UN after it published a list of words that if felt should be changed to be more inclusive.

It suggested using humankind instead of mankind, swapping chairman for chair and replacing husband or wife with spouse.
