Distressing video footage shows a terrified black woman hogtied and thrown into the back of a police car after she dialed 911 to report an aggressive stranger. Shataeah Kelly, from Aurora in Colorado, was arrested in August 2019, but first got to see bodycam footage of the incident this week.

It shows her head resting in the footwell of the back seat of Aurora PD Officer Levi Huffee’s cruiser. Her hands had been tied behind her back, with Kelly’s feet also bound, making it impossible for her to place herself in a safer position.

Kelly says: ‘Officer! I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe! Please help me, please, help me officer!’ She spent 21 minutes in the foot well of the vehicle until arriving at the local jail, where she was booked, with Kelly terrified she was going to break her neck.

Speaking to KDVR earlier this week, she said: ‘I never knew how bad a heart could feel until I watched that video, and I was like, “How could you treat another person like that?”

‘Animals don’t even deserve to be treated like that, and what you did was you treated me less than the dirt on the ground.’

Huffine was terminated from his job in February, with Kelly saying she was pleased by Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson’s decision to remove him from her force.

He has since appealed his dismissal, and claimed Kelly was involved in a physical altercation and use of a taser. Kelly had originally dialed 911 after being harassed outside a library.

Huffine’s appeal hearing against his termination continues.
