A pensioner has died one month after a serious crash on a Scots road.

Valerie MacKinnon, 73, died in hospital on Wednesday as a result of injuries she sustained in a crash on the A87, between Balmacara and Kyle of Lochalsh, at around 1pm on August 22.

Emergency services raced to the road after a smash involving a Honda Jazz car and a Skoda Rapid car.

Valerie, from Sleat in the Isle of Skye, was a passenger in the Skoda Rapid.

She was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow following the collision and tragically died this week.

Her family have been made aware of her death.

The two other people injured in the crash, the 58-year-old male driver of the Honda and his 55-year-old female passenger, were both released from hospital after treatment.

Sergeant Ewan Calder, Highland and Islands, Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Mrs MacKinnon at this time.

"Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries in relation to this collision and would appeal to anyone who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch. Information can be passed to officers via 101.
