Peaky Blinders being filmed outside St George's Hall

Although the drama is set in Birmingham, Liverpool has regularly been called upon to provide the backdrop for the show

Production crews for the hit BBC period drama Peaky Blinders have been on scene at St George's Hall today setting up for a spot of night filming.

Props including umbrellas on wooden stands and classic cars have been set up outside the city's great neoclassical building.

Crews have been busy placing lighting rigs and dressing the scene for tonight's shooting of the sixth series of the hit show starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby.

Although the drama is set in Birmingham in the aftermath of World War One, Liverpool has regularly been called upon to provide the backdrop for the show.

It's been filmed in the city since 2012 at a variety of locations including the Welsh Streets, the Tobacco warehouse at Stanley Dock, the State Ballroom on Dale Street and in Port Sunlight.

ECHO photographer Colin Lane returned to the set this evening to take in the full atmosphere of tonight's filming.
