Sir Paul McCartney was spotted in Liverpool with his family following a poignant date for his family.

The Beatles legend was photographed at Lime Street on Sunday with two of his daughters - fashion designer Stella and photographer Mary, as well as his wife Nancy Shevell.

The rare sighting of the singer comes after Sir Paul paid tribute to his first wife, Linda, on what would have been her 80th birthday on Friday

Linda, a photographer, musician, animal rights activist and entrepreneur died from breast cancer when she was just 56 years old.

Sir Paul was spotted in several iconic areas of the city for filming, including in a car on Allerton Road, in the city centre and at the Beatles statue on the Pier Head where he posed for a selfie.

He also returned to his childhood home, where he even gave the now owner a piano performance before visiting several places referenced in the song 'Penny Lane'.

However, the highlight of the show was when he surprised locals with an intimate performance at The Philharmonic pub, appearing from behind curtains, much to the shock of pub-goers.
