Over the past few months, queueing for shops has become the new normal.

It could be argued that now more than ever, shoppers are willing to queue for hours on end in order to bag themselves exciting new items to improve their homes for lockdown.

Earlier this week, we reported how IKEA had seen queues of thousands gather for the reopening of stores across the country - with many shoppers reportedly waiting for over three hours in the blistering heat to get inside.

Yesterday, McDonald's reopened several of its drive-thrus, causing huge queues in places like Bolton, Middlebrook Retail Park, Derby Street, and Chorley Old Road.

Now Aldi has seen thousands of shoppers waiting in a virtual queue for its latest Specialbuy release, reports the ECHO.

Over 19,000 people waited up to try and get their hands on the retailer's new garden egg chair, which retails at £149.99.

Demand for the chair was huge, and it quickly sold out.

On Twitter, user @MaeKidney said: "Guess who has huge bags under their eyes today because they were up until gone 2am in a 2 hour long virtual queue (I was over 19,000 in the queue but didn’t give up hope), to then sit refreshing the webpage continuously but is now the proud owner of an Aldi garden egg chair."

User @bethtxy said: "Just waited up to order the hanging egg chair from Aldi. Boy that was the most stressful website experience I've ever had. But ya girls got a hanging egg chair on the way."

However, not all customers were so lucky, @kimbosqpants said: "Waste is time signing up to anything with Aldi, queues for 2 hours to buy 1 egg chair from midnight to 2am and they’d all gone!

"Seems now some people are selling 3 or more on eBay at inflated prices, Aldi you need to consider limiting some of your special buys to 1 per person."

@positivedobba said: "The egg chair had gone by 4am this morning. How many did you have? 5?"

@Aaron_kiely said: "I spent 1h 40min in an online queue for an Aldi hanging egg chair for my mum and they were sold out. Anyone have any idea of alternatives for roughly the same cost?"

The majority of Aldi's garden furniture is now sold out however the retailer is expected to release more later this month.
