Olivia Newton-John 'really had a hard time' in week before death, says niece

Olivia Newton-John "was in a lot of pain" during her last days, said Totti, the niece of the late Grease star. Goldsmith said in an interview Tuesday (August 9).

The 73-year-old British-born actor died of breast cancer on Monday (August 8).

Her death was confirmed by widower John Easterling in a statement posted on Newton-John's Facebook page.

In an interview with the Australian news program A Current Affair,Goldsmith said that her aunt's death was not a shock, and that her family, especially in the week before, had said, "How sick she was."

Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 at the age of 43, before the disease went into remission. In 2017, she revealed that her breast cancer had returned and spread to her hips, progressing to Stage IV.She also received her second cancer diagnosis in 2013.

It was another complication because I was in the hospital and my immune system was very sensitive," said Goldsmith, A Current Affair host. Speaking to Tracy Grimshaw, he added:

In the past, Newton-John has spoken about using cannabis to deal with the pain he experienced as a result of cancer, telling People magazine: ” during an interview in 2019.

However, Goldsmith told Grimshaw that the medication "wasn't enough" for her aunt's last few days, and that she "was in really a lot of pain" before she died.

Goldsmith said. I have accomplished more in my life than I could have ever imagined.

The Australian actor couldn't go to the United States with his aunt, but two days before Newton-John's death, he said in a FaceTime call, "I told her everything I had to say."

"She was about to leave us, but I feel like she figured it out," said a visibly distraught Goldsmith. Goldsmith also said that while her cousin Newton-John's daughter Chloe Rattanzi was "really tough", she was "amazing."

Lattanzi posted a touching video to her mother on Instagram late Tuesday night. The post included behind-the-scenes footage of her mother-daughter duo recording her duet "Window in the Wall."
