Normal People fans set to wait until 2025 to see what happens next – but Daisy Edgar-Jones says she will return

NORMAL People fans may have a long wait on their hands to find out what happens next - with its star and director saying new episodes may not hit screens until 2025.

The sex-focused BBC series ended with Marianne, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, set to stay in Dublin while Paul Mescal's Connell was poised to accept a place on a writing course in New York.

Now, 22-year-old Daisy has said she is keen to take part in a second series - but warned it could be when the characters are in their 30s or even later.

She said: "The open ending is kind of perfect. That's what life is like, you never know what's around the corner.

'I quite like that I don't know where they are and that we don't have to say goodbye to them.

"But at the same time, I guess I would be curious to see where they go, maybe in their next stage of life, maybe in their early 30s or even later."

Referring to writer Sally Rooney, she added: "I would like to see what that would bring but I guess it's up to Sally and what she wants to do."

That echoes what director Lenny Abrahamson has said about the show - insisting he would like to check in on the characters when they're much older.

He explained: "As Sally says, the book stops where it stops because it feels right.

But, I have a sneaking thing in the back of my head that if everybody was willing, and if the stars aligned, I’d love to revisit them in five years and find out what happened, where they are."
