Nightclubs to open from 3pm with half-price drinks to beat 10pm curfew and bars to offer unlimited cocktails from 10pm

NIGHTCLUBS are opening from 3pm with half-price drinks and bars are offering unlimited cocktails from 10am in a bid to beat the new curfew.

Boris Johnson's 10pm curfew on all pubs, bars, and restaurants to crack down on rising coronavirus cases has forced venues to open earlier in the day.

Under the new measures, venues have to kick punters out of the premises at 10pm or face a potential fine.

Some establishments have reacted to the 10pm curfew by opening earlier in the day - and providing customers with discounts and happy hours from as early as 4pm.

Popworld bars in York and Liverpool are now opening from 4pm until 10pm on Fridays in a bid to get as much custom before the curfew.

The bars are also offering a whopping 50 per cent off drinks until 8pm.

Caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay is offering a "bottomless brunch" with unlimited cocktails from 10am.

They've also extended their happy hour until 8pm to make sure revellers are out by 10pm.

Announcing the updated hours on Twitter, it said: "Guess we'll just have to start a little bit earlier then Boris..."

The Drapers Arms in Hackney, London, have also put out a call to drinkers to start their nights on the town earlier.

The pub said: "Our booking system remains open until 9pm.

"Apart from anything else we remain a pub and you are still welcome to come and just have a drink.

"We've got a few bottles that would struggle to last 59 minutes. I also think if you walk in, sit down and order a steak and a glass we could get that done."

Despite the new rules coming in to force last night, revellers still enjoyed a night on the town.

As well as the curfew at 10pm, the new rules also ban customers from ordering from the bar.

Inspectors were hired by councils in London to look through letterboxes to ensure the party was over at some establishments.

The officials, hired by Westminster council, were seen peering through windows and checking venues including Ronnie Scott's as part of their inspection.

DAYTIME DRINKING

Dame Cressida Dick, the Met Police's Commissioner, joined PCs on foot patrol as the regulations began.

Meanwhile, the PM says takeaways can continue to be served past the deadline - and McDonald's have announced they will keep their drive-thru open past 10pm.

He said: "From Thursday all pubs bars and restaurants must operate a table service only expect for takeaways - together with all hospitality venues they must close at 10pm.

"I'm sorry that this will affect many businesses just getting back on their feet but we must act."

Today, London was added to the national coronavirus "watch list" after a spike in cases as Mayor Sadiq Khan warned the city is at a "tipping point".

Tom Stainer from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), said: "This is punishing the thousands of responsible publicans across England who are providing a Covid-secure environment for their communities, while already operating at greatly reduced levels in their efforts to keep their customers safe.

"Make no mistake about this – without a proper financial support package, communities will lose their local forever, people will lose their jobs, and publicans their livelihoods."

All retail workers and customers in indoor hospitality settings will be required to wear masks - except when they are seated to eat or drink - while all workers who can work from home are now being encouraged to do so.

Fines for breaking the rule of six and for failing to wear a face covering are increasing to £200 for a first offence.

The police will now have the option of asking the military for support with soldiers potentially being drafted in to guard protected sites in order to allow officers more time to crackdown on rule-breakers.
