Nicola Sturgeon is set announce a range of new measures in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus across Scotland.

The First Minister will address the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood later today following an emergency COBRA meeting with the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a meeting with her cabinet.

Cases across the country have increased over the last two weeks as different parts of the economy open up for the first time since late March when the pandemic hit the UK.

Over the previous 24-hour period, 255 new cases of the deadly virus were identified in Scotland.

Yesterday afternoon it was announced that the UK's coronavirus alert level had moved to 4 - meaning the virus is "high or rising exponentially".

Sturgeon said the Scottish Government will aim to avoid a full-scale lockdown such as the one imposed in March.
