In the midst of animosity and talk of a takeover, few Newcastle United supporters are discussing transfers.
However, transfer news can often prove difficult to escape and although there has been no reported development in rumours surrounding Reading midfielder John Swift, there is still transfer news for fans to digest.
Here is the latest transfer news from the last 24 hours.
Newcastle could miss out on Wallace
Rangers are set to beat Newcastle to the signing of winger Jed Wallace, who is set to leave Millwall after six years at the club.
According to Football League World, it’s looking ‘increasingly difficult’ for Millwall to keep hold of Wallace, who is out of contract in the summer and is yet to sign another deal at The Den.
This would open the door for a potential move away, with West Ham United and the Magpies reportedly keen on the midfielder, but they might miss out.
Rangers can start to negotiate a contract with Wallace in January, however, the two English clubs must wait until summer to make an approach, giving Steven Gerrard's side a possible advantage.
Wallace has scored 35 goals in 208 appearances at the London club.
Magpies target Swift
Newcastle are scouting Reading star John Swift as they look to strengthen their midfield options following a tough start to the Premier League season.
After scoring seven goals in his first eight Championship matches, Swift has attracted attention from a whole host of clubs and Newcastle have been added to that list.
According to Football League World, Aston Villa, Brentford and Sheffield United are also keen on the midfielder who has been a consistent performer for The Royals over the years.
Newcastle could arguably do with someone of Swift's box-to-box ability as Jonjo Shelvey and Jeff Hendrick appear to be out of Steve Bruce's thinking currently due to injury and form.
Newcastle-linked midfielder linked with Qatar switch
Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez is in talks with a club in Qatar, according to The Athletic.
The 30-year-old's days at Everton have seemed numbered for some time and he was linked with a move to Newcastle over the summer, but a deal never materialised.
It now appears the former Real Madrid man will leave the country altogether and start fresh in the Middle East if talks go smoothly.
