Shelvey injury latest

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has offer and injury update and spoken of the frustration of watching the Burnley defeat from the sidelines.

The playmaker bagged three goals in three games and had a pivotal role in the Magpies’ recent upturn in form.

The 27-year-old has established himself as Steve Bruce’s first choice pairing in United’s engine room alongside Isaac Hayden since the victory at West Ham United in November.

But following successive strikes against Manchester City, Sheffield United and Southampton, Shelvey was one of several players ruled out of the trip to Turf Moor on Saturday by injury.

Newcastle United players were in buoyant mood as they completed one of their final training sessions ahead of Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace.

The Magpies players were put through their paces under the watchful eye of Steve Bruce and Steve Harper as they bid to put last weekend’s defeat to Burnley behind them and look to continues their otherwise good form.

United are hoping Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron will be back to face Roy Hodgson’s side at St James’ Park, while DeAndre Yedlin and Florian Lejeune both took part in the sessions.
