Christmas Eve is always a big day and night in Newcastle as people don their Christmas jumpers and have a few drinks before Santa Claus comes to town.

Just like on Black Eye Friday, the city's many pubs and bars will be expecting some brisk trade as the clock ticks down to December 25. But if you fancy doing things a bit differently this year, Newcastle will be the scene of a huge outdoor Christmas Eve bash.

For the past week, Times Square has been home to Cinema in the Square , with al fresco screenings of festive films like Elf and Home Alone and while, during the day on Christmas Eve there will be free screenings of The Grinch and It's A Wonderful Life, once the sun goes down there will a massive party.

Enjoy pints, cocktails, wine and maybe even a glass round the firepit; tuck into street food from a host of local vendors and see in Christmas to a soundtrack provided by a series of live DJs who will keep the music going right through until midnight.

Tickets for the Christmas Eve party in Times Square are on sale now, with the first earlybirds only 50p! Get yours online from Fatsoma.
