New Year’s Eve TV 2019: BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 schedule for films and shows

THE year 2019 has been a huge 12 months for TV - and now it’s time to see it out in style this New Year’s Eve.

From Jools Holland’s annual Hootenanny to Dame Edna Rules the Waves, each of the main TV channels are serving up some gems for New Year’s Eve 2019. Here’s the lowdown on how to get your TV fix before the strike of midnight...

EastEnders

Channel: BBC One

Time: 9.00pm

The events of Christmas Day continue to haunt Linda on New Year’s Eve as her behaviour spirals dangerously out of control.

The festive temptation proves too much for the Queen Vic landlady as she moves from party to party, leading to a dramatic downfall that will change her life forever.

EastEnders' Linda will take centre stage in the special episode told entirely from her perspective as her alcohol abuse storyline comes to a dramatic head.

Emmerdale

Channel: ITV1

Victoria Barton has plans for a night out with Amy Wyatt but her night is interrupted when the baby starts kicking and she’s forced to leave the party. Her waters break as the New Year fireworks go off.

Elsewhere, Aaron Dingle is told by Chas that Victoria is in labour, but he’s too down about the thought of another year stretching ahead without Robert.

As Victoria packs up to leave the hospital, Diane worries about Wendy meddling with the baby’s life.

Coronation Street

In the wake Christmas Day’s gun horror, residents are quick to point the finger at Gary following discoveries about his role as the cobbles’ loan shark.

Tracy’s New Year goes off with a bang as she has an unexpected night of passion and cheats on Steve.

The Barlow’s call at Daniel’s flat, determined that he and Bertie mustn’t spend New Year’s Eve on their own. They raise a toast to Sinead and Daniel is touched.

The Graham Norton Show: New Year’s Eve Show

Time: 10.20pm

You can always trust Graham Norton to bring megastars from across the pond, and this New Year’s Eve is no different.

Guests will include Suranne Jones, Zac Effron, Zendaya, Hugh Jackman and the newly formed band Leading Ladies.

Jool’s Annual Hootenanny 2019 

Channel: BBC Two

Time: 11.15pm

Jool’s Annual Hootenanny is as traditional as turkey at Christmas, and the BBC has confirmed that Jools Holland will be back on New Year’s Eve once again to usher in the new decade.

The host is joined by a number of high-profile guests to perform alongside his band for this year’s musical extravaganza including Stormzy, Stereophonics, Rick Astley, Tom Walker, YolanDa Brown, Melanie, La Roux, Eddi Reader and Pauline Black.

The Last Leg Of The Year

Channel: Channel 4

Time: 9.00pm

Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker present a two-hour New year’s special, taking a look back at the highs and lows of 2019 in the company of celebrity guests including Sue Perkins, Sara Pascoe, Tom Davis and Rosie Jones, and music by house band The Horne Section.

Dame Edna Rules The Waves

Channel: BBC One

Time: 9.05pm

Gloriously tongue-in-cheek as ever, Dame Edna Everage returns to TV to host a New Year’s special.

Following her emotional farewell tour, Dame Edna has been enjoying luxury downtime on board her enormous yacht, sailing the seas without a care in the world.

Filmed in front of an audience Dame Edna will host an exclusive evening on board her palatial yacht The Ocean Widow with a bunch of celebrity guests including Sharon Osbourne, Rob Rinder and Emily Atack, and music by Nile Rodgers and Chic.
