New TV show will see ten celebs learn moves from 1987 film Dirty Dancing

TELLY execs seem to be in love with two things right now – dancing and celebrity challenges.

Now they’ve come up with a way to combine both in a concept based around 1987 film Dirty Dancing.

A new show is being developed where ten famous faces will have to learn all the moves from the movie starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

A TV insider said: “This is one of the best-loved films of all time and offers a really clever theme which will allow them to get celebs dancing.

“But the moves aren’t easy. After all, the late, great Swayze was a professional dancer.

"Since Strictly there’s been a long line of attempts to tap into viewers’ renewed love of dance.”

The hunger for dance has grown and grown, resulting in shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and The Greatest Dancer.

But the most successful seem to be those that mix the moves with celebrities, as was recently the case on ITV’s The Masked Dancer, a hit spin-off from The Masked Singer.

We have already seen stars getting put through their paces, with the likes of ITV’s Don’t Rock the Boat.

And upcoming show Soccer Aid on ITV will feature Sir Bradley Wiggins teaching stars competitive cycling.

Compared with those gruelling challenges I think the Dirty Dancing celebs are going to have the time of their life.

Jogging Eve

SANDRAH OH hits the road as she makes the latest series of Killing Eve.

Her character, MI5 agent Eve Polastri, might be on the run but there isn’t a hint of her pursuer, assassin Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer.

Instead she’s accompanied by Fiona Shaw who plays fellow spook Carolyn Martens on the hit BBC 1 thriller, which has just started filming its fourth and final season.

John: Mask overkill

COLD Feet actor John Thomson was a hit as Bush Baby on The Masked Singer – but thinks the format is being stretched too far.

He has been approached to appear on spin-off The Masked Dancer as well as Strictly, but turned both down.

On the We Built This City podcast he revealed: “They said, ‘What do you think of that?’. And I said, ‘I think it’s a ridiculous idea. What’s next, The Masked Chef? The Masked DIY Expert? The Masked Painter?’.

“Honestly, that’s the problem with the franchise.

“They get a hit and they think, ‘Right, now what? Where are we gonna go with this?’.

“It’s just ridiculous. The Masked Builder!”

I bet some channel will do that at some point.

David not in mood for sex scenes

HE’S known for being saucy and flirty but David Walliams was terrified when he did a sex scene in a biopic about comic Frankie Howerd.

According to Rafe Spall – who was David’s co-star in the 2008 drama Rather You Than Me – the normally confident Britain’s Got Talent judge crumbled and Rafe had to have a word.

On food writer Jay Rayner’s Out To Lunch podcast, the actor said: “His bit in life is being overtly flirtatious. But when it came to the sex scene, he was all scared . . . it was just like, ‘Come here, you d***head! Get over there. Shut up’.”

Although it didn’t put Rafe off sex scenes, he isn’t keen on doing them now.

The actor added: “I think I’m hanging those boots up. I’ve had enough of that sort of thing.

“But, to be fair, I don’t get asked much any more.”

Fizzing with flavour

NADIYA HUSSAIN will be back on our screens with Nadiya’s Fast Flavours, a six-part cookery series for BBC Two and iPlayer later this year.

The former Great British Bake Off winner said: “I’m going to be bringing a whole host of new, everyday recipes to the table that are easily achievable – but fizzing with flavour.”

Fans flap over Bill elephant

STRICTLY fans flooded the BBC with complaints over the use of an elephant on the show – that was actually computer generated.

On Oti Mabuse’s The Rhythm Of Life podcast, series winner Bill Bailey revealed the grumble about his routine with partner Oti which featured the image.

One viewer even contacted Bill personally to berate him.

He said: “People thought there was a real elephant in the studio.

"I actually got a woman saying, ‘I can’t believe you Bill. I’m very disappointed’.”
