Things are taking a sinister turn on ITV this week, with the debut of a chilling new drama right in time for Halloween.

Months after the dramatic ending of series two of Liar, another thriller is about to hit screens that looks set to have millions of viewers hooked and full of theories as it airs over consecutive nights.

The Sister kicks off on Monday, October 26, and comes with the tag line 'how far would you go to keep a secret?'

One rainy evening, central character Nathan, played by Years & Years star Russell Tovey, is surprised by an unwelcome face from the past.

Nathan has never been able to forget the worst night of his life: a party that led to the sudden, shocking death of a young woman.

Only he and Bob, an eccentric old acquaintance, know what really happened… and they’ve resolved to keep it that way. But years later, Bob appears at Nathan’s door with terrifying news that threatens to tear Nathan’s world apart.

Because Nathan has his own secrets now, secrets that could destroy everything he has desperately fought to build for himself and his family.

The Sister cast also includes Bertie Carvel and Simone Ashley and the new ITV drama is inspired by the novel Burial, written by Neil Cross, the writer responsible for huge TV hits like Luther and Spooks and its executive producers also know a thing or two about scoring a successful drama, having been at the helm of Dublin Murders.

And anticipation for The Sister's debut is high on social media. One Twitter user posted: "Real excited to start @itv 's 'The Sister' tonight. Feel like the old days, gonna be watching tv in real time..." and another tweeted: "Looks a couple of cracking series starting tomorrow.... The Sister on ITV and The Undoing on Sky Atlantic."
