Netflix's latest three-part documentary Don't F**K With Cats has been branded the streaming service's "most disturbing documentary yet" by traumatised viewers who have been left struggling to sleep after watching the episodes.

The violently distressing programme begins with a video being uploaded to YouTube which graphically shows a man smoking a cigarette before killing two small kittens.

None of the filmed killings are explicitly aired in the documentary, but the visibly horrified reactions from the documentary's participants are enough to leave your stomach in your mouth.

After the anonymous user uploads the video, a group of Facebook users are so sickened that they strive to track him down.

The story continues to evolve, with a number of horrifying twists and turns before one final brutal crescendo that has left viewers gasping.

One tweeted: "#DontFckWithCats is the most gripping yet horrifying Netflix documentary I’ve ever watched. We binged it all in one sitting. I honestly thought it was about someone posting horrible cat videos (which would be bad enough), but it took one hell of a turn! A must watch."

While another warned: "Do NOT watch #DontFckWithCats on Netflix if you're sensitive to animal abuse. I'm all thinking it had some silly cat videos or something, watched some of the first part then realized it's disturbing."

"I’ve never watched anything so disturbing and mentally distressing as #DontFckWithCats but also - never been so hooked at the same time. (Fair to say I shut my eyes and shouted no no noo at the tv about 100 times)," one commented.

Another wrote: "Need some positive vibes just watched #DontFckWithCats and it put me in a mood."

One commented: "I'm not an animal personal at all but Im 10 mins into #DontFckWithCats and Im already disturbed."
