A young prankster sparked a huge police operation after holding up a sign in a car saying: ‘Help me. She’s not my mom!! Help!!’
The unnamed girl brandished the sign while being driven along a busy road in Stockton, California, on January 11 by a woman who was actually her mother.
Her note prompted such panic among other drivers that several dialed 911, with six California Highway Patrol units dispatched to rescue the child.
Officers were so concerned about the child they performed a ‘high-risk enforcement stop,’ with the car the youngster was in pulling over immediately.
It was only then that they realized the girl was in no harm, and that she’d scribbled the note without her mom’s knowledge for a bit of fun.Golden retriever left in agony after being zapped by electric manhole cover
A CHP spokesman explained: ‘The driver was contacted and it was determined that the juvenile had made it all up and thought it was a fun thing to do.
‘The mother was unaware of what her daughter was doing and after it was determined that there was no foul play, the mother and daughter were allowed to leave the scene.’
The spokesman asked other parents to keep a close eye on what children are doing in the back seat, and highlighted the waste of resources caused by the prank.
