Viewers tuning into This Morning were left scratching their heads as hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were joined by a masked man during today's instalment.

The anonymous man appeared on the show in jeans, a white jacket, glasses, a hat and a khaki ski mask that only showed his eyes.

In a bid to keep his identity a secret, Phil and Holly chose not introduce him by his name, while they began speaking about the spread of coronavirus during an interview.

The mystery man - otherwise known as the Drillminister - is running to be London Mayor and jokingly said that if he became Mayor of London, it would be "mandatory" to wear a mask on public transport to stop further spreading of the virus.

"This will be mandatory on the London underground." He said. "You’ll get one when you get your oyster."

Unsurprisingly, many viewers watching from home were left confused and distracted by the gentleman's attire and flocked to Twitter to react.

One viewer tweeted: “Erm...enlighten me folks, who's the guy in the balaclava, and why is he wearing it?”

Another even described his look as 'scary' for children: “WTF am I watching on #ThisMorning ....in a mask ? How scary for any little ones watching with mum or dad.”

“This Morning who is the guy with the mask on the show today. Looks very silly.” A third wrote.

A fourth put: "#ThisMorning who’s that fool in the mask?!"

Someone else asked: "Who is the idiot on @thismorning ? #mask#ThisMorning "

Another chimed: "Why is the bloke in a mask? What have I missed? #ThisMorning ."

Drillminister announced plans to run for mayor in January, after rising to fame in 2018 with his political-themed rap music.

He posted: "Oiiiii I’m going live on ITV with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield right now lock in guys."
