Police have launched a murder hunt after a shooting in south London.

Officers were called to Bedford Hill in Balham at 10.50pm last night after it was reported someone had gunshot injuries.

The Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and a man in his 20s was rushed to hospital for treatment.

But despite the efforts of paramedics he was pronounced dead at 11.36pm.

His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination is set to take place in due course.

Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing and there have been no arrests as of yet.

A large road cordon has been put in place and a crime scene has been established outside a property.

Police dogs were also seen scouring the scene.

Buses were diverted last night due to the road being blocked.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
