Motorists in Ayrshire face a near 40-mile diversion when a stretch of the A71 is closed for resurfacing works.
Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) will be carrying out the essential maintenance in the Newmilns area.
The two-phase project gets underway on Monday, February 10 and includes closures that week and over the weekends from Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 7.
Drivers travelling in both directions through the Irvine Valley and from South Lanarkshire will be affected.
Darvel and Priestland motorists are likely to be most impacted with a near 50-mile official diversion for journeys to and from the Kilmarnock area.
The official diversion route follows the A76 to Cumnock then the A70 to Muirkirk before joining the B743 to Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, then the A71 to Newmilns and vice versa.
From February 10 to Friday, February 14, A71 Main Street in Newmilns will be closed daily from 7am to 6pm as the first section of work is carried out.
A small diversion will be in place for local residents only while signs will be put in place to inform the public that businesses are open as usual.
The second phase of the project will focus on the Isles Street and Darvel Road sections with a convoy system operating between 7am and 6pm from Monday, February 17 to Friday, February 28.
A full weekend road closure will then be implemented from 6pm on February 28 until 6am on Monday, March 2 for laying surface coarse.
A further weekend road closure will be put in place from 7am on Saturday, March 7 to 6pm on Sunday, March 8 for the completing of surface coarse and lining works.
An ARA spokesperson said: "To carry out these works safely and efficiently and to protect the roads operatives and the travelling public, we will require to close two of these sections and implement additional traffic management measures.
"It is hoped that the resurfacing work will be completed within the timescales outlined, however, the work is weather dependant and any unforeseen difficulties could result in a delay.
"The Ayrshire Roads Alliance apologises for any inconvenience caused during these essential works."
