Livingston defender Ricki Lamie seems to be high on Stephen Robinson's transfer wish list with talk of a pre-contract agreement emerging in recent days.

The former Airdrieonians kid has been at the Tony Macaroni Stadium since 2018, and is the 26-year-old is now being touted for a move to the Steelmen as his contract ends this summer.

If he signs, what kind of player will be arriving at Fir Park? Lanarkshire Live Sport spoke to 'Talk Livi' podcast host Andrew Semple about his views on the Shotts native.

What type of player is Ricki?

Ricki is a pretty flexible player. He can play at left-back, left wing back and centre back.

He’s strong and a good physical presence. What he lacks in pace he makes up for in strength. He can whip in a decent cross and gives his all every week.

How impressive has be been during his time at the Lions?

Ricki came in during a time when we had Craig Halkett, Declan Gallagher and Alan Lithgow performing miracles in the three man central defence, so played most of his games as a wing back as part of a 3-5-2 formation.

This season again he has been in and out the team.

The introduction of Jon Guthrie in the summer, Ciaron Brown in January and more recently Efe Ambrose his game time will certainly be reduced.

Even at left back or left wing back we now have players in front of him in that pecking order.

When he has played recently he’s been prone to the odd loose ball or error of judgement, perhaps due to lack of confidence or more down to the on-going speculation regarding his future.

With that said, will he be a miss for Livingston if he leaves?

I keep talking about his ability to play in multiple positions and for that he will be a miss, but we have some great cover at centre back and at left back and as I mentioned earlier.

I think he was going to find his game time reduced. Our ability to find a player in the transfer market has been fantastic over the last few years and recruitment has been a massive past of our success.

I’m very confident we could replace Ricki with someone alike or better heading into next season.

How high a level do you think he could play at?

Honestly, I’m surprised a team above us have shown an interest.

For me he is a solid lower half Premiership player. His flexibility will certainly be a plus for many teams.

He’s a no-nonsense defender and for me is a far better centre-back with the game in-front of him.

His lack of pace is shown up at left-back but at centre-back he reads the game far better and will header everything thrown at him.

Will he follow in Declan Gallagher's footsteps and move to Motherwell?
Will he follow in Declan Gallagher's footsteps and move to Motherwell?

How would he fit into the Motherwell team?

Motherwell are a team with some great footballers in the forward areas but are a side that defend the box old school - header everything, clear everything, don’t take chances.

Lamie will certainly fit into that style if he’s utilised correctly - at centre back.

We know a lot about Declan Gallagher who has been a star performer for Motherwell this season.

If Ricki can go in and play every week alongside Declan that will only benefit Ricki and Motherwell.

I wish him all the best, a good servant to Livingston and has given his all when he’s played.
