Motherwell legend James McFadden heaped praise on Devante Cole after a stunning performance against Livingston.

The 25 year-old striker grabbed two goals and an assist in a man of the match performance to continue his brilliant form under Graham Alexander.

Cole has contributed seven goals and three assists since Alexander's arrival and he drew praise from Fir Park favourite McFadden.

He said on Sportscene: "He's been excellent since Graham Alexander took over as manager. He's played more centrally and he can hold the ball up.

"It's a brilliant turn and finish {for his first goal}. He's almost turned the wrong way and had to snatch at it but it's a brilliant finish.

Fellow pundit Chris Iwelumo was also impressed with the former Manchester City youngster, adding: "Confidence makes a massive difference.

"Graham Alexander has to get a lot of credit for giving the player the belief by saying I know the attributes that you've got.

"If you are consistently getting to that level then goals will come. He will get the service with the way he {Alexander} wants to play and playing centrally, he will see a lot more of the ball.

"He's always on the move, knows where the goal is and it's a fantastic finish."

Motherwell have picked up seven points from their last three games and are now ten points clear of bottom side Kilmarnock.

Although it's still mathematically possible that they could get relegated, it's highly unlikely and former 'Well hero McFadden believes they'll be fine.

He said: "I think they'll slightly be looking over there shoulder but they've got enough.

"After the two performances a couple of weeks ago against Hamilton and St Johnstone, I was worried but the response has been excellent and they look to have got themselves out of trouble now."
