A mobile grocer who delivers fruit and veg to vulnerable people has branched out to cater for NHS staff as a thank you for their work during the pandemic.

Emma Pulham recently brought her fruit and veg firm Maple Fresh to Burton after moving from Devon and is now also catering for staff at Burton Queen's Hospital.

Miss Pulham, 37, found a niche in the market after seeing supermarket delivery slots quickly taken up while people are not able to leave their homes.

She said: "Since moving to the Midlands I have focused my efforts to helping NHS staff and vulnerable people who are not IT savvy in doing online groceries orders and do not have time to go to local shops, and I deliver much needed fruit, veg and other essential items.

"With the likes of the supermarkets not being able to offer many delivery slots due to the pandemic, I can ensure I can get a delivery of the freshest produce within a day or two days notice maximum. I have also been getting other essentials to help those that are struggling, nothing is too much trouble."

The mother of one has long-standing experience in the fruit and veg industry thanks to her parents.

She said: "The history to me setting up fruit and veg delivery service goes back to my parents. They owned their own fruit and veg shop in Torquay, Devon, for 10 years but the time came for them to retire.

"I worked for my parents in between another job at the time and upon closing we supplied some care homes who were sad to find out we were closing so I decided to keep on supplying them in between my other job, which was working well.

"Then I thought I would see how things would go if I was to offer home deliveries and set up a Facebook page to begin with and it just took off within a month.

"A year and half later covid hit and I helped many, many vulnerable people and a lot of key workers who were too busy to be able to shop.

"Personal reasons have bought me to Burton and my business is still running in Devon successfully, which I still manage, but as I moved I wanted to expand to my new local area.

"My boyfriend works within Burton's Queen's Hospital and he recommended my service to colleagues so I have been delivering to their personal homes not to the hospital and I want to reach out to more key workers and vulnerable people within Burton and surrounding areas.

"I have built up, in my short time living in the area, some regular customers who are very happy with what they are receiving.

"I can supply all fruit and veg that is in season, I always pick the produce I want so it is always fresh and great quality and the day I get my produce is the same day my customers get theirs too."

Miss Pulpham is now offering a 20 per cent discount using code BURTON21 which can be used whether ordering by phone or direct from the website www.maplefresh.co.uk
