People showing no symptoms of coronavirus can now be tested at two sites set up in South Ayrshire to help tackle the ‘silent spread’ of the killer virus.
The mobile testing units, operated by the Scottish Ambulance Service, are located at Girvan's Quay Zone and the John Pollock Centre in Ayr.
Each facility will operate by appointment only and will be open as follows:
The tests are free and results will be back within 24-48 hours.
The introduction of the asymptomatic tests will identify more people who are infected, allowing them to isolate and limit the spread to others.
South Ayrshire Council leader, Peter Henderson, said: “We all have a part to play in helping to suppress the spread of COVID-19.
"The addition of the Mobile Test Sites provide a further opportunity for us to break the chain of infection and save lives.
“The last nine months have been very difficult for all of us, and while more uncertainties inevitably lie ahead, it’s encouraging to see that every effort is being made in our communities to recover, and ultimately get back to doing the things we enjoy.
“I would encourage South Ayrshire residents to make use of these new resources, and give us a real fighting chance of coming through the other side of this pandemic as soon as possible.”
