Memphis Depay next club odds: Barcelona lead the chase for former Man Utd ace as Lyon exit moves closer

THE future of Memphis Depay is under scrutiny once again.

And it will come as no surprise to many that Barcelona are the favourites to snap up his coveted signature.

Bookmakers Betfair think Depay is a 5/2 chance to arrive at the Nou Camp during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old was expected to link up with former national team coach Ronald Koeman over the summer.

But Barcelona didn't have the funds to complete the transfer.

However, with the Spanish heavyweights 10 points off top position and talented teenager Ansu Fati facing four months on the sidelines.

Barca are increasingly likely to make a splash in the winter window.

And in a recent interview Koeman refused to rule out a plot to sign Depay in the coming months.

He told reporters when asked about the forward: "Now is not the moment to talk about players who aren't here. For me, it's not good.

"It's true his name has come out and he's played every game with our national team as a No 9.

"Everyone can have their opinion, but not here, and we'll see what happens in the future."

The Netherlands international has done little to quell speculation himself.

In fact, he poured fuel on the flames when posting a message on Twitter - hinting that he could leave Lyon.

Depay tweeted "Y’all will appreciate me when I'm gone. Enjoy the Sunday," after Sunday's 3-0 win over Reims.

Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said: "Since leaving Manchester United, Memphis Depay has rebuilt his career and is now Lyon's captain and one of their many star players.

"There have been a number of clubs linked with him, but it looks as though Barcelona are the closest t signing him. Ronald Koeman's side are 5/2 to sign the fellow Dutchman in January."
