MEGHAN Markle’s BFF Misha Nonoo has defended the Duchess against ‘unjust’ criticism, saying she’s trying to ‘empower’ women.
Fashion designer Misha, who is rumoured to have set The Duke and Duchess of Sussex up on their blind date, opened up about her relationship with her best friend.
The 31-year-old worked with the mum-of-one on her capsule clothing collection, which officially launched yesterday at John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, designing the pieces alongside the former actress.
Speaking on the Today show, she praised her friend’s hard work and determination, even in the face of criticism.
She said: “I think [the criticism] unjust, and I think that people should really focus on the good work [she and Prince Harry] do.”
The New York based designer attended the launch of the Smart Set range in Oxford Street, which includes shirts, blazers, dresses and trousers, to support her friend.
She said: “This is her first official engagement after having had her baby, it's all about empowering women, all about what she has essentially always sought to do.
“When she goes to Africa with Prince Harry and their new little one, she is going to do some events there on empowering women.
“She's really interested in empowering women around the world.”
Misha praised the 38-year-old's latest project, in collaboration with charity Smart Works, after Meghan was inspired by the work they do after visiting them earlier this year.
The charity helps women back into work by providing them with a suitable wardrobe, for each item bought from the capsule collection, another will be donated to the charity.
Misha “I think that is something that her and I bonded over from the very early days of our relationship was that she genuinely seeks to help people.
“It comes from a place deep within her where she really wants to make people's lives better.
“She's the consummate professional, and she's been extremely hands-on in the project, and it's something that she's really passionate about.”
Misha’s Instagram account also posted a congratulatory message to Meghan after the launch of her clothing line, writing: "We’re thrilled to be officially launching our partnership with Smart Works and The Duchess of Sussex, as we work together to support women as they re-enter the workforce.”
TV host Keir Simmons probed Misha over whether she would confirm if she set the couple up, to which she answered: “No comment, no comment, no comment, no comment.”
