Meghan Markle 'fulfilling American Dream' after 'humbling' Royal Family

Meghan Markle ‘focused’ on producing says Netflix CEO

Author Tom Bower believes Meghan has managed to become one of the "world's superstars" over the past few years. Alongside her husband Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex has successfully achieved financial independence from the Royal Family, signed off a few profitable deals and now lives in her beloved California.

Through her success, she has also "humiliated her critics and humbled the Royal Family", according to the commentator.

And her supporters believe Meghan is rightly pursuing the American Dream with her projects.

Mr Bower wrote in a comment piece for the Sun: "She has humiliated her critics and humbled the Royal Family.

"Her next steps are to conquer America, then the world.

"Critics carp that Meghan’s megalomania has no limits.

"Her admirers retort that she is purposely fulfilling the American Dream."

Meghan became the Duchess of Sussex upon marrying Prince Harry in May 2018 following a whirlwind romance that started in the summer of 2016.

Announcing she wanted to hit the ground running with her royal work, Meghan acquired four patronages in January 2019 and carried out several important projects - including guest-editing an issue of British Vogue - while a senior royal.

However, the Duke and Duchess stepped down as full-time working royals at the end of March 2020.

One year later, Prince Harry told in their landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey this move was due to a "lack of understanding and lack of support" from the palace.

Since stepping down, Meghan and Harry have signed deals with Netflix and Spotify, which will see them producing content exclusively for these streaming giants.

Meghan announced in July she is working on an animated series called Pearl, while Prince Harry is the executive producer of Heart of Invictus - a series following some Invictus Games athletes in the run-up to next year's tournament.

At the end of 2020, the Sussexes also launched their organisation Archewell, which includes a not-for-profit foundation and two production companies for their audio and video projects.

And in June this year, Meghan debuted as a children's book author with the short story The Bench.

The book depicts the unique bond between father and son as seen through the eyes of a mother.

It was born from a poem the Duchess composed for the Duke on his first Father's Day after Archie Harrison's birth.

While Meghan appears to be focused on her profitable work and the foundation, Mr Bower believes the Duchess may well try a political career in the future.

He wrote: "With the support of Democrat godfathers the Clintons and the Obamas, Meghan should have little difficulty getting nominated as one of the state’s 40 Congressmen sent to Washington.

"If Californians flock to her Crusade for Goodness, then after two terms — just four years — she can establish her political roots.

"After that, fate would take over."

Meghan will turn 40 on Wednesday and, given COVID-19 restrictions are more relaxed in California than they were last year, she will be able to celebrate it with friends if she desires to do so.

The Duchess celebrated her 39th birthday quietly, given she had just moved into her £11million mansion with her family and Covid restrictions were still tight.

On her first birthday in the company of Prince Harry in 2017, the couple famously travelled to Botswana to carry out conservation work with the charity Elephants Without Borders.

The following year, when she turned 37, she attended the wedding of Prince Harry's friends Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks.
