Matt Lucas has been left devastated after his pet dog, Milo, died following a short battle with cancer on Tuesday 29.
The sad news comes in quick succession following the loss of his other pet pooch Hob, who passed away ten weeks earlier.
The 45-year-old Little Britain comedian has opened up about his heartbreak following the double-tragedy in a touching social media post which he shared alongside several adorable pictures of his pup.
“The unthinkable has happened,” he begins in his Instagram dedication.
“In the space of ten weeks both of my beloved dogs have died. Dear Milo passed away tonight, after a short battle with cancer. He was nearly 13.
“Thank you to Kevin for insisting we get a puppy, and to Alex and Craig and Jamie and Emily and Edna and everyone who helped me look after him.
“And apologies if he ever stole your football in the park. There are umpteen punctured, half-eaten footballs at my house, if anyone wants one.
“Milo, I love you. You and Hob were the greatest friends to me.
“I’m sorry that you never managed to impregnate your bed. God knows you tried hard enough. Rest easy, you magnificent, beautiful, ridiculous, drooling thing of wonder. You will be forever in my heart xxx,” his touching post concluded.
Several well-known friends have sent their regards to Matt following the loss of his second pup.
“Oh Matt. That’s horrible. I can only imagine how heartbroken you must be. They were both gorgeous wonderful dogs. I’ll miss you Milo. Hurry back here so we can all hug you till it gets annoying. Love you mate,” actor Sean Maguire said in the comments.
Matt had already admitted that his house had been left ‘silent’ after losing his Labrador Hob in November.
He also gave a nod to his late ex-husband, Kevin McGee, in the social media post, who committed suicide over ten years ago.
According to Matt’s Instagram statement, Kevin had insisted that the then-couple commit to a puppy.
The couple had married in 2006 but had divorced two years later. Kevin, who was 32 at the time of his death, committed suicide in his flat three years after they split.
