Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave youngsters Anthony Elanga and Amad rare game time on Tuesday night as the Red Devils lost to Leicester City, and their performances left Nemanja Matic impressed.

United surrendered their Premier League title challenge with defeat against Brendan Rodgers' side at Old Trafford.

Due to their congested fixture schedule, Solskjaer named a second-string side for the tie in order to rest players for Thursday's game against Liverpool.

In his 'B' side, Solskjaer named youngsters Elanga, Amad and Mason Greenwood, with the latter scoring United's only goal of the game with a well-taken shot just five minutes after Leicester took the lead.

“The young players who played tonight did an amazing job and showed that the club can count on them in the future,” Matic said.

“They showed that they will be very important for our club in the future.

"They played with personality, they showed the character, so I was very happy to see them on the pitch.

"The way they played was great, against a very good side in Leicester, it's not easy to play.

"I remember when I was young, that I always watched the older players to see how they behave, how they play, how they train.

"I always try to be an example for the young players. I hope that I can help them.“
