Martin Lewis explained how people can save cash creating something we all need in his weekly show.

The Money Saving Expert outlined how people can create a will for free, to ensure their assets are left to the right person.

Wills drafted by a solicitor usually cost around £150 to make, but there are two schemes coming up where you can get one created for no or little cost.

Martin warned that making a will was especially crucial for co-habiting couples that had never married.

He said: "Just because you've lived with someone for 30 years and have children with them doesn't mean your money will go to them."

The first scheme is the 'Free Wills' scheme for over people aged over 55, which is running this month.

Many solicitors across the country take part and all you have to do is enter your postcode on the Free Wills Month website to find your nearest participating solicitor who still has availability.

You then contact the solicitor to arrange an appointment, stating that you're calling as part of the Free Wills Month scheme.

People are encouraged to leave a gift or bequest to a charity such as the NSPCC or Age UK, but there is no obligation to do this.

The second scheme which starts next month is the 'Will Aid' scheme.

Participating solicitor firms offer to write basic wills for anyone, regardless of age, waiving their usual fee, and instead invite clients to make a donation to Will Aid.

The suggested donations are £100 for a single will or £180 for a pair of basic 'mirror wills', which is distributed among the charities.

Will Aid opened in September for people to book their November slot – it's advisable to book early in case slots run out.
