IN a generous mood? This is Random Act Of Kindness Day, the perfect time to do a good deed.
You know what they say: “What goes around comes around.”
But if you think being charitable means less money in the piggybank for your own everyday spending, think again.
Here are my favourite uncostly ways to be kind . . .
Donate your reward points. You can collect Nectar points if you donate to Oxfam and “tag your bag” with gift-aid tags — ask in store or get them online at oxfam.org.uk. Got unused reward points spare? You could use them to buy items from just £2.50. Earn 1p in Nectar points for every £1 your donated item sells for.
Swap old clothes for vouchers. If you go to an Oxfam shop and donate a bag of unwanted clothes with at least one Marks & Spencer-labelled item, you will get a £5 M&S voucher to use when you spend at least £35 in store — and will be doing your bit for charity. Or take a bag of old clothes to your nearest H&M store and recycle them for a £5 voucher, valid on a £25 minimum spend. Get £5 voucher for each bag donated.
Earn money while giving. Consumer site topcashback.co.uk has a charity section allowing you to earn 14.5 per cent cashback when shopping with a range of charities, including Help for Heroes. You can also donate cashback earnings from your account to the charity of your choice. Donate up to £300 cashback a year.
Raise money by shopping online. Give As You Live is a free and easy way to help your favourite charity. Simply sign up then shop online at one of 4,300 retailers, including Tesco, Argos and River Island, and they will donate a percentage of your spend to charity. They will then email you within a week to let you know what you have raised for your chosen charity. Donate up to £3 if you spend £45 on first online shop at Tesco Groceries.
