Manhunt for ‘dangerous’ crossbow maniac who overpowered FOUR cops & stole weapons as schools are locked down in Germany

AN armed man with a crossbow and dressed in camouflage is on the run after disarming four officers at gunpoint in Germany.

Hundreds of police have been deployed in the search for a 31-year-old man identified as Yves Etienne Rausch, around Oppenau in the Black Forest.

Police in the southwestern city of Offenburg said that officers are combing through rough forested terrain with the support of sniffer dogs and helicopters.

Authorities took the unusual step of naming the suspect as Yves Etienne Rausch, warning that he is carrying several firearms and known to be violent.

According to the investigators, he is armed with a bow and arrow, a knife and a pistol.

Police conducted an ID check on Rausch near the Black Forest town of Oppenau early Sunday during which he initially cooperated but then suddenly pulled a gun on officers, threatening them and forcing them to hand over their service weapons.

Nobody was injured in the incident close to Germany's border with France.

Rausch is described as being 170 centimetres (around 5 feet, 7 inches) tall, bald, with a goatee beard and wearing camouflage clothing and possibly glasses.

The police have been looking for the man since Sunday morning.

"Several strip crews are currently looking for an armed man dressed in camouflage patterns," Offenburg police said in a statement on Sunday.

The police have warned all people who are currently in and around Oppenau to go home urgently.

Special forces and helicopters are involved in the search.

A mug shot of the man has been published by authorities in a bid to find him.

A former neighbour had told of unsettling details of the life of the refugee.
