Ex United midfielder on where Pogba can struggle

Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson believes Paul Pogba can struggle with the tactical part of football, which is why he can be inconsistent.

Kleberson was speaking to MEN Sport exclusively via BetOclock and this is what he said about Pogba:

“Paul Pogba is an immensely talented player and brings a lot to the Man United team, especially with his technical skills.

“But the way Man United play now, sometimes he struggles with the tactical side of the game.

“With the current formation and trying to play quickly through the defence to attack, it doesn’t work for Pogba. As he wants to have more of the ball at his feet, to control the game and show his technical skills to create chances.

“But if he can come back and fit in to the midfield, it will be amazing for Man United as he’ll be able to take United to the next level and offer something new to the attack.”

“I’m happy with the team and what we’ve done together, so far, and I think there’s more to come.

“That’s why I joined — to be a part of such a great club. The fans have been great. They help me in every game and their reactions to my tackles help me a lot during games.

“It’s nice to hear the praise.”

Nicky Butt exclusive: On McTominay and Williams

Nicky Butt believes Scott McTominay has grown into such a key figure for Manchester United that he’s now the first name on the teamsheet.

The United head of first team development name-checked McTominay and Brandon Williams as shining examples to the club’s younger players. Both have exceeded expectations at United to feature regularly in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team this season.

McTominay, 23, is now a mainstay of the midfield while left-back Williams, 19, has made 11 first team appearances this term, scoring his first senior goal along the way.

Butt spoke exclusively to MEN Sport about them:

“Those two lads have done amazing.

“Scott is probably the first name on the teamsheet at the minute and Brandon has done really well.

“It’s a mixture that makes Man United players. It’s not just always about raw talent, there’s a lot more than that.

“There’s been many players who have come through the gates at the training ground and been better than most people, but haven’t made it. It takes more than that to make it through to the first team.

“Talent gets you through the gates, but determination, grit and drive keeps you here for many many years.

“That’s what we’ve got to do with our academy players, because without the will and the drive to do well, you’re not going to make it here.”

'United to offer €20m for Barca teenager'

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, via Inside Futbol, United are rivalling Southampton for the signature of the 19-year-old, who can play in central defence or defensive midfield.

Dalot exclusive interview

Diogo Dalot sppoke exclusively to MEN Sport after playing for Manchester United’s Under-19s in their 3-0 victory over AC Milan last night, admitting he has a huge battle on his hands to wrestle the right-back slot off the in-form Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while reflecting on a tough time with injury this season.

Here’s a taster of what he said:

“I feel that my position is the right back side and as long as I keep pushing hard in that position, I’ll be able to play.

“I’ll play in other positions if the manager wants, I’m always open for that. But I want to make a statement and I want to help the team in my best position. If I have to play in other parts of the pitch, I’ll do it for sure.”

Kleberson on United's midfield

Former United midfielder Kleberson has spoken exclusively to MEN Sport via BetOclock about the club’s current midfielders, including two of his fellow countrymen.

On Andreas Pereira

“Andreas has played some good games this season, mainly with Fred in the middle. For example, when they’re playing in the Europa League, he looks more confident and when he’s dribbling with the ball, he can be dangerous. When he plays like that, he can make a difference in a game and he still has the chance to show that this season. With Man United playing well, that should help him grow into the team.”

On the Fred and Scott McTominay partnership

“Fred and McTominay work very well together. But Fred is like a new player for Man United this season and offers more to the team now. The pace he shows in all areas helps him recover in defence but also play quickly in the middle third to start attacks. He’s always involved in the game and that helps to complement McTominay’s game as well. The midfield partnership has given the team balance and defensive protection, which allows the forwards to have freedom in attack.”

Mino Raiola on Paul Pogba's future

Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola insists the midfielder wants to win silverware at Manchester United but is ‘sorry’ he did not move him to Real Madrid in the summer.

Pogba declared his desire for a ‘new challenge’ in June and Raiola also said he was ‘in the process’ of engineering a transfer to Madrid that never materialised.

This is what Raiola told The Telegraph:

“Paul wants to be successful and happy and wants to win prizes and he would love to do that with Manchester United.

“Okay, there was big interest from Real Madrid and Manchester didn’t let him go. We didn’t make a fuss about it and he didn’t make a fuss about it because I work in accordance with the player.

“You know other players can bring things to extreme but Paul doesn’t like that. So you work differently. There was an interest from Real Madrid but they didn’t let him go and I’m sorry, because I think that Paul being French then Zidane is an important factor in French football history.”

Under-19s win over AC Milan

It was a terrific night for Manchester United’s Under-19s last night as goals from D’mani Mellor, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong helped them beat AC Milan 3-0 at Leigh Sports Village.

The game also saw full back Diogo Dalot make his long-awaited return from injury.

Predicted United team vs Watford

Manchester United’s clash with Watford on Sunday is expected to come too soon for Paul Pogba to make his long-awaited return from injury.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer therefore may have to choose between Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira in the No.10 role, as United look to return to winning ways in the league after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

It’s likely that the United boss will make minimal changes to his league side for the Vicarage Road trip.

Predicted line up vs Watford: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; James, Pereira, Rashford, Martial.

Erling Haaland's father trolls reports of Manchester United flight with social media post

he father of Erling Haaland has trolled reports suggesting he and his son had flown to England for a meeting with Manchester United.

A report from Norwegian outlet Aftenbladet reported Haaland had taken a Norwegian Airlines flight from Stavanger in his homeland to Manchester on Friday morning.

However, the report was downplayed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shortly after when the United manager insisted he had no knowledge of the reports and that a meeting was not scheduled.

“I don’t think he’s en route here, to be fair,” Solskjaer said at his press conference on Friday. “Not through me anyway! You know I can’t comment on other teams’ players, I’ve said that many times and it’s one of those things in this job you get speculation a lot of the time.”

Solskjaer was then told Norwegian reporters had witnessed Haaland boarding the plane. “Well... he’s not coming to Manchester. I know the boy and I know his friends and he’s on a Christmas holiday. You can’t fly anywhere from Stavanger, you need to go via via!”

Manchester United 'told how much' Jadon Sancho would cost and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have been told they will have to pay £127million if they want to sign Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

United have been chasing Sancho since he first rose to prominence with a string of scintillating performances in his breakout season last year.

It was no surprise that Europe’s biggest clubs were showing interest but he decided to stay at Borussia Dortmund where his form has continued into this campaign.

However, things didn’t look good in November when Sancho was substituted at half-time in a 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich and punished for a second time after returning late from international duty but since then he has once again proven his quality.

The 19-year-old has scored eight goals and clocked five assists in his last seven games and became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to hit double figures in goals and assists.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to strengthen his attacking positions in January and Sancho is one of several names to have been touted along side the likes of Erling Braut Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and James Maddison.

Manchester United's Nemanja Matic praises Antonio Conte amid Inter Milan transfer links

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic believes Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte “is one of the best” managers in the world, amid suggestions that he could be set for a move to San Siro.

Matic has only been a bit part player for United this season, not starting a league match since the 2-0 defeat to West Ham and the MEN understands he is open to a move in January amid concerns over a lack of playing time.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a reunion with his former Chelsea boss Conte, who is now in charge at Inter Milan.

The potential move would also see Matic reunite with former United teammates Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, who both joined Conte at Inter in the summer.

Matic’s current United contract expires in the summer and MEN Sport understands the Serbian international is unlikely to stay beyond the season.
