Manchester United play their first Premier League game since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this afternoon.

United take on Chelsea from 4.30pm (UK time) at Stamford Bridge, looking to impress incoming interim boss Ralph Rangnick whose appointment is set to be confirmed early in the week.

Rangnick looks set to take the reins on an interim basis until the end of the season, after United took the decision to relieve Solskjaer of his duties last Sunday following the 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Michael Carrick remains in caretaker charge, having overseen a solid 2-0 win over Villarreal in midweek, though Chelsea will provide stiffer opposition. Thomas Tuchel's side have been the early pace-setters in the Premier League and destroyed Italian giants Juventus 4-0 on Wednesday night.

Rangnick latest

We await an official United update on the interim appointment of Ralf Rangnick, who won't be in the dugout at Stamford Bridge today due to work permit issues.

But United will hope to make an announcement early next week, with the German expected to be appointed until the end of the season as manager, before moving into a consultancy position for two years.

Predicted United line up

United's starting line-up in the capital will certainly prove to be interesting to say the least, with it possible that Michael Carrick could tweak his system and personnel to deal with the challenges thrown up by Thomas Tuchel's side.

Left-back Luke Shaw could miss out through concussion and ankle injuries, respectively, while Raphael Varane (hamstring) and Paul Pogba (thigh) remain sidelined. Fred should feature, having travelled with the squad.

The back-four, which kept its first clean sheet of their Champions League campaign on Tuesday evening, will see at least one change made, with Harry Maguire unavailable for selection. The United captain was sent-off of against Watford last weekend and must serve a one-game ban. With Varane also sidelined, it is likely that Eric Bailly will partner Victor Lindelof at centre-back.
