Manchester United fans are over the moon after goalkeeper David De Gea put pen-to-paper on a new contract and want him to become the club's permanent captain.
The Spaniard's previous deal was set to expire next summer leading to speculation over whether he would depart the club.
However, the 28-year-old has committed his long-term future to United, penning a four-year deal with the option to extend it for a further season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I am delighted that David has committed his long-term future to the club.
"Over recent years, David has proved himself to be the best in the world and a vital part of our plans as we look to take Manchester United back to where it belongs.
"David is a fantastic person and his outstanding quality provides the perfect base to our defence."
Manchester United fans are delighted to see one of their best players tied down to a new deal and want United to reward him with the captain's armband.
Ashley Young is the club's current captain but his long-term future is unclear - plenty of fans want to see De Gea handed the responsibility permanently and took to social media to voice their opinion.
