Michael Carrick made the brave decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench for the Reds' match versus Chelsea on Sunday afternoon and the caretaker manager also tinkered with his side's formation following United's win against Villarreal in midweek.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford started in the wide areas while Fernandes started down the middle in the false nine role.

United have defended deep against Chelsea in the game and Fernandes has regularly dropped back to receive the ball.
