Ralf Rangnick’s short Manchester United spell started sweetly with a hard fought 1-0 home victory against Crystal Palace.
Brazilian midfielder Fred became the first United player to score under the former RB Leipzig manager, as the Red Devils overcame Patrick Vieira’s unpredictable Eagles.
Rangnick has six months to stamp his mark on this hot and cold United side, who will drop to seventh position if Arsenal overcome an Everton side in turmoil.
Numerous reports have suggested the German will be afforded £100million to supplement his side in the upcoming January transfer window.

Newcastle United have reportedly offered Jesse Lingard a deal which would make him the highest paid player in the Magpies’ history.
The Premier League’s latest financial juggernaut will likely flex their astronomical financial muscles in January, and Lingard is understood to be their transfer priority.
The United midfielder reportedly has no intention of extending his current deal which expires next summer.
And a report from The Times claims Newcastle could be about to capitalise on his uncertainty by offering him a four-and-a-half-year contract worth significantly more than the £100,000 per week contract current top earner Miguel Almiron has.
It is also believed the Magpies could try and get the deal swiftly over the line by submitting a sizeable transfer offer for the England international.
United plotting McGinn swoop
Rangnick is also said to be targeting an audacious move for Aston Villa midfield general John McGinn.
The Scottish midfielder’s tireless performances since Villa were promoted, have seen his reputation in the Premier League skyrocket in recent seasons.
Midfield appears to be the primary area the Red Devils would like to strengthen, amid their recent defensive midfield struggles, and the uncertainty encapsulating stars such as Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Donny van de Beek.
And a report from the Sun has claimed McGinn is one of the names at the top of Rangnick’s shopping list.
However, the Scotsman would likely not come cheap, as he still has three and a half years left to run on his contract at Steven Gerrard’s side.
McGinn’s composure and ability to manoeuvre his way out of tight spaces could make him a strong fit under Rangnick’s fast playing style.
Rangnick could be set to raid his former club RB Leipzig for dynamic midfielder Amadou Haidara.
The versatile star has featured as a box-to-box midfielder, a defensive midfielder, and as a right-midfielder for the Bundesliga giants.
Moreover, he has also developed under the very football system Rangnick crafted during his many years at Leipzig.
And a report from the Sun claim he could be a United player in January.
The Mali international has a £32m release clause and would likely be a significantly cheaper option than the Reds’ previous midfield targets over the years.
Considering the craziness of the transfer window in recent seasons, the 23-year-old’s buyout clause is relatively sensible; particularly when it is combined with the £89m and £47m transfer fees the club paid for Pogba and Fred respectively.
