Manchester United could face up to paying as much as £80million for Jack Grealish if Aston Villa avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
The 24-year-old is having a terrific campaign and has already scored more goals than in any other season for the Midlands club.
His form has drawn the attention of Manchester United and Man City - and he fits the former's transfer model under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But as Aston Villa captain it would be tough to prize Grealish away from the club he came through the youth ranks at. United, however, remain confident they can secure their No.1 target.
The only tough part to swallow could be the player's transfer fee.
According to The Athletic, if Aston Villa stay up this season they could make United pay up to £80m to secure Grealish's services.
Dean Smith's side currently side one place above the relegation zone, a single point ahead of West Ham and Watford.
If the Villans were to be relegated Grealish would almost certainly depart on a much reduced fee.
United also plan to step up their interest in long-term target Jadon Sancho this summer.
The 19-year-old is one of European football's most exciting prospects and showcased his raw talent for Borussia Dortmund against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
Sancho would certainly cost United north of £100million which, along with Grealish's possible capture, could accumulate to an expensive summer transfer window for United.
United are still admirers of Leicester City's James Maddison but it remains to be seen whether they would sign both Grealish and his England mate.
