ANGEL DI MARIA has complained Manchester United forced him into wearing the club's iconic No7 shirt.
The Argentine joined the Old Trafford club in a then-record £60million move from Real Madrid in August 2014.
But the move proved little more than a disaster and he left after just one season to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Di Maria has hit out at then boss Louis van Gaal in the past for playing him out of position.
Now in an attempt to seemingly blame everyone but himself for his dismal spell in England, Di Maria has claimed he was forced into wearing the jersey.
When asked why he took the shirt, Di Maria told Ligue 1: "I don't really know.
"When I arrived, I saw that the No11 was available.
"It's a shirt number I wore a lot when I was younger and I was keen to get once again.
"At Real Madrid , No11 was already taken, so I took 22. At Manchester United they gave me No7, I didn't get a choice.
"I would have liked 11 but there we are. Here I had a choice, so I chose 11!"
Adnan Januzaj wore the No11 shirt when Di Maria arrived, paving the way for him to wear the top legends such as Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo previously had.
There is no denying that since moving to PSG Di Maria has rediscovered the form that made him a world-beater.
And he knows it, saying the league leaders - with whom he has won nine major honours - have helped him fall in love with the game again.
Di Maria, who wears the No11 shirt there, added: "PSG is very important to me. They welcomed me with open arms in a period when I was finding it difficult in Manchester.
"I came here with ambition and determination to succeed.
"Little by little, I showed that I was capable, that I could help the club achieve great things."
SunSport told you how the famous shirt has become a curse in recent years, with Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez both struggling in it.
