Manchester United fans have heaped praise on Edinson Cavani following his first full-game for the club in the 4-1 win against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

The 33-year-old arrived on a free transfer in the summer but has been forced to remain patient for his chance to impress his new supporters, being restricted to substitute appearances thus far.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to shift first-choice No.9 Anthony Martial back to the left wing for the win against Basaksehir to accommodate Cavani starting through the middle.

The Uruguayan did not disappoint, impressing fans with his hold up play - completing 23 of his 24 passes at Old Trafford - despite not scoring.

Fans were most impressed with the forward's work-rate despite being in the twilight of his career with some claiming it was the performance of a player who could easily pass for a 23-year-old.

United midfielder Juan Mata opened up on his relationship with the summer signing, admitting he was delighted to see Cavani move to Old Trafford.

He said: "Well, I’m very happy Edinson has come here because he is a very professional player, a very committed team-mate and very driven, during all his career.

"Also, Edinson is very humble, of course, and he is a guy who likes the countryside. I think he’s settled now in his house in the countryside, which he is happy about.

"Of course, I told him that it is important to have a couple of umbrellas, not only one, in Manchester so I am sure he’s got a few! He is loving where he lives and his family is also happy."
