Manchester United fans believe Anthony Martial can flourish in a new role next season with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba behind him.

Martial and Fernandes have impressed since the Portuguese's arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January, proving they are on the same wavelength during the win against Manchester City when the playmaker expertly picked out the Frenchman who volleyed past Ederson to open the scoring.

Fernandes' impressive performances in the engine room has left fans wondering how the team could look now star midfielder Paul Pogba is back to full fitness following two ankle injuries that have disrupted his campaign.

United supporters believe Martial can be one of the main beneficiaries of the new partnership as the 24-year-old will no longer have to drop deep to fashion opportunities for himself.

One of the Frenchman's biggest strengths is playing on the shoulder of defenders and fans believe the best is yet to come from the forward.

United have extended Odion Ighalo's loan deal until January 2021 and the Nigerian will provide competition to Martial in the final third.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Martial must rise to the challenge and fight for his place.

He recently said: "Big clubs you’ve got to fight, that’s it. That’s all it boils down to. Can you fight for your position? That’s it.

“You’ve got to accept there’s going to be an opportunity for someone else to come in and play.

“But then your performances have got to outweigh everything. You’ve got to make sure the manager knows.”
