FURIOUS Manchester United fans blasted David De Gea as 'embarrassing' and a 'clown' after Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring for Arsenal.
In one of the most bizarre goals in recent memory, De Gea crumpled in a heap on the floor after team-mate Fred stood on his ankle.
De Gea stayed on the floor as the ball was only cleared as far as Smith-Rowe - who volleyed in a goal from outside the box.
While referee Martin Atkinson initially looked as if he was going to disallow the goal, a VAR check allowed it stand.
United players were angry, but according to former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg, who was speaking on Amazon Prime, the goal was perfectly fine.
And home fans didn't take long to let out their anger at De Gea on social media.
Guyman wrote: "David De Gea is a Professional Clown disguising as a goalkeeper."
Mohammad added: "De Gea is so embarrassing man. It wasn't even a challenge least of all something work going to the ground for."
And Jamie wrote: "De Gea didn’t just break his ankle. He fell over for absolutely no reason whatsoever and is completely fine.
"He thought he could buy a free kick in his area because he didn’t know it was Fred behind him. Embarrassing."
David said: "De Gea's fault, embarrassing. There's no way that hurt so badly that he couldn't do his GK duties for 10 seconds."
But United-supporting YouTuber Mark Goldbridge disagreed, writing: "How can our fans blame De Gea for that? Fred studded his ankle.
"Try having that done and expect not to go down in painHow can our fans blame De Gea for that? Fred studded his ankle.
