Despite a valiant first half rearguard, Colchester weren't able to pull off a miracle at Old Trafford tonight.

The League Two side were superb in the first period, frustrating United enough to cause Marcus Rashford to miss two sitters and shoot constantly from distance.

But half-time allowed the Premier League side to regroup and they came out with renewed focus.

Three goals in ten minutes did the damage as Rashford scored one, assisted the other for Martial and was on hand to make sure Jackson could only score into his own net.

Job done – United are in the hat – but Colchester can be proud of a spirited display and a terrific cup run.

Into the final five minutes now and the Old Trafford crowd can rest easy.

For all their hard work, Colchester didn't take their chance at 0-1 and it's a long way home for their loud 5,000 support.

18-year-old Kwame Poku is on for the visitors, who was playing for Worthing Town in Isthmian Premier Division last term.

Over at Goodison and Big Dunc has done it again – Everton equalise late against Leicester.

United probing for a fourth, but the organised Colchester ranks again keep them at bay before Greenwood's pea-roller from 25 yards is straight at Gerken.

Huge chance for Williams after Martial unselfishly lays across goal, but the youngster loses his footing and is treated to a proper League Two challenge from Prosser.

Despite the score, the Colchester centre-back has been terrific tonight.
