Former Manchester United winger Daniel James feels like he has been at Leeds United ‘for ages,’ according to Patrick Bamford.
James completed a deadline day deal to Elland Road despite starting two of United’s three opening games of the Premier League season.
A long-time target for Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, the Welsh winger almost signed in 2019 before United swooped in to secure his services for £15million.
But at the second time of asking, and after two years at Old Trafford, James has found himself at Elland Road after falling down the pecking order with the summer arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
James made his debut for Leeds in their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, and Bamford has been impressed by his new teammate.
“Because of the whole thing where he nearly signed but didn’t sign, it felt like he was in the club,” he told the official Leeds United podcast.
“It’s almost like he’s already been here and seeing him in the dressing wasn’t like: ‘Oh he’s a new player’. It was like: ‘Morning mate, are you alright?’ and it feels like he’s been there for ages.
“He knows Tyler [Roberts] from the Wales squad and he’s a good lad, he’s proper chatty and he’s just one of the boys.
“He wasn’t shy or anything so he’s fit right in.”
