Manchester United fans believe signing a new centre-back should be the transfer priority before the summer deadline next month.
United's defensive frailties were exposed on the opening day of the season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw his side beaten emphatically by Crystal Palace.
The game epitomised every worry with the current United side and in particular the vulnerability in the centre-back partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
After the match club great Gary Neville highlighted the need for a new defensive signing and explained why Jadon Sancho shouldn't be the priority.
“You can talk about Jadon Sancho all you like, but until they get a centre-back in that can run and defend one-on-one, you’re never going to win the league," he told Sky Sports.
“They’re not going to win the league with that centre-back pairing. They have to get a mobile, quick, dominant centre-back in alongside Lindelof or Maguire.
It seems like the majority of United fans agree too according to the latest results of an MEN Sport poll.
Supporters on social media were polled on Sunday about which position should be United's priority before the transfer deadline on 5 October, with most voting for a new centre-back signing.
8,271 fans voted in the poll on Twitter with an overwhelming 62 percent of them suggesting a new central defender was needed the most.
29.2 percent suggested a right winger remained the priority, while 5 percent argued in favour of a new defensive midfielder and just 3.8 percent voted for a new full-back.
Responding to the poll one fan wrote: "For the first time in years Arsenal have a better defence than us. We need defenders," while another summed up the mood by adding: "All four need strengthening."
