Manchester United defender Di’Shon Bernard has become Hull City’s sixth signing of the summer.

The highly-rated 20-year-old will spend the first half of the campaign with Grant McCann’s Tigers and provide competition along with Sean McLoughlin and Festus Arthur for first choice pairing of Jacob Greaves and Alfie Jones.

Head coach Grant McCann spoke at the weekend of his desire to bring in a right-sided defender ahead of the new Championship season which gets underway at Preston a week on Saturday, and has clinched the deal.

Bernard’s United debut came the Europa League almost two years ago, unfortunately scoring an own goal in a 2-1 defeat in Kazakhstan against Astana, prior to going out on loan.

He made 31 appearances on loan at Salford City last term, the club owned by former United players including Gary Neville.

During that stint in League Two, Bernard played a pivotal role in helping Salford develop the tightest defence in the division, conceding just 34 times in their 46 outings.

With Bernard in the side, the Ammies kept 14 of their 22 clean sheets during a campaign which saw them narrowly miss out on a place in the play-offs.

The former Chelsea youngster has played twice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first team in pre-season, most recently in the win at City's Championship rivals Derby County.

It is expected he will feature for the Tigers in their final friendlies of pre-season this weekend.
