Manchester United have added Dean Henderson to the first-team squad list on the club's website ahead of next season.

Henderson shone while on loan at Sheffield United last campaign and the season prior, and will be eager to prove himself under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next term.

Having returned from Sheffield United it might seem obvious for Henderson to be added to United's first-team list, however it is interesting to see his promotion considering he remained listed as an U23s player on the website throughout his two loan spells at Bramall Lane.

However, after two fine seasons playing under Chris Wilder the young goalkeeper is now officially in the first-team frame at Old Trafford along with David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Joel Pereira.

Henderson inked a new three-year deal with United in July and is generating interest from Chelsea amid discussions over a new contract.

The young goalkeeper is believed to only be prepared to return to United if he is promoted to first-choice goalkeeper with playing time viewed as essential for him next season ahead of the rescheduled European Championship.

Speaking last week Solskjaer suggested United are unlikely to go into next season with De Gea, Romero and Henderson in their first-team squad.

"I think I must be the most privileged manager in the world with the goalkeeping department, with Sergio, David and we've got Dean Henderson coming back; three top, top keepers," he said.

"This season has shown how important Sergio has been for us and, for me, David always performing. We'll see what we do rest of the season and going forward. Difficult, yeah. But it’s a nice problem to have.

"As you say, competition for places is important we are looking to have competition for places. We have Dean, Sergio, David in the ranks. Lee [Grant], the fantastic professional that he is, backing them up.

"It will be difficult to keep three of them at the club, so we will see what the decision will be there."
