Let's be honest, at some point in our lives we've all thought about quitting our job in a dramatic way.
However, despite how easy it might look in films and on TV, few of us have ever had the courage to do it.
Maxwell Dean did however have the courage. He decided enough was enough and took matters into his own hands. He filmed himself dramatically quitting his job and posted his video on TikTok.
Dean, 31, recorded himself bowing out of his job role in spectacular style after becoming sick of his ‘rude’ boss and her ‘belittling’ behaviour.
The 28 second clip, which has garnered over 11 million views on TikTok and Instagram, shows Maxwell confidently addressing his regional manager Sandy.
He says: “Sandy, I quit, you're a b***h” before throwing down his keys and in an act of defiance, listing the reasons why he was leaving.
The main reason was manager Sandy made one of his colleagues cry earlier on in the day.
Maxwell Dean, a property manager from Salt Lake City, Utah, told local media “that it’s the best decision he has ever made” and “he has no regrets whatsoever.”
“I quit my job because of my regional manager Sandy. She was being very rude and talking down to my manager Mary and our leasing agent Nicole.”
“I was already done with work.”
“As soon as I got in my office my leasing agent and my manager came into my office and started complaining about how badly they were treated by Sandy the day before"
“We are halfway through the next day when my manager comes into my office crying.”
“We talked and she vented about not feeling good enough, she was feeling talked down to and very belittled.
“She was done. She was going to put her keys on her desk that night and leave. I told her I was going to walk out too but I had some choice words for Sandy.”
Maxwell said he started to feel extremely nervous on the build-up to facing Sandy and the realisation of what he was about to do set in.
He explained: “I started to record. I walked in and tossed my keys on Mary's desk. Looked at her and called her a b***h, told her why she was that in my eyes and walked out".
Another colleague walked out too, which affirmed to Maxwell he’d done the right thing.
Since posting the original video and why he quit his job on his TikTok page, Maxwell has gone on to become a motivational speaker.
His little stunt has made him a small internet celebrity racking up nearly thirty thousand followers on TikTok.
“I want to be a motivational speaker. I want to give people a voice again so that they can take back their power and find success.
Maxwell described the feeling of empowerment that quitting gave him. “I got in my car and drove home. Elated about what I was feeling.
“I took back my power. I stood up for my manager, and I felt that this was the beginning of something new. In my mind, I knew that I was going to have to work hard and strive for what was going to come next. I had no backup plan. I got home and posted the video to TikTok.”
Maxwell was stunned that within moments people started to respond to it.
He said: “A lot of friends were surprised that it happened but were overall happy. Some friends agree with what I did and some don't. I have received a lot of backlashes but equal respect and people telling me that I have inspired them.”
Maxwell said he is motivated by the positive responses and is loving the platform his video has created.
“I’m excited," he explained.
“ I've always dreamed of building a platform where I could talk about anxiety, depression and fighting suicide. This video was the first step in that direction, I hope to keep going and making a difference and creating more relatable viral videos.”
“It was so empowering to stand up for my manager and take my power back.”
