Manchester City have beaten Leicester City in a 2nd vs 3rd clash in the Premier League.

City started the day 14 points behind Liverpool, so their title hopes are already slim, but they now move to within one point of second place Leicester with the 3-1 win, cutting the gap to the leaders to 11 points as Jurgen Klopp's men do not play this weekend.

Pep Guardiola made eight changes from the side that beat Oxford this week, with Fernandinho, Kevin de Bruyne and Ederson returning. Sergio Aguero was named on the bench after recovering from injury.

City fell behind to a Jamie Vardy goal, but Riyad Mahrez's deflected effort and an Ilkay Gundogan penalty put them ahead at the break. Gabriel Jesus scored his first home goal of the season after good work from an impressive De Bruyne.

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Fernandinho, Otamendi, Mendy, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Sterling, Jesus.

Subs: Bravo, Aguero, Zinchenko, Rodri, Cancelo, Foden, Garcia.

We'll bring you live reaction from the Etihad right here.

Landmark win for City

It was also City’s 250th Premier League win of the decade - more than any other club since 2010. Only Manchester United have ever won more in a decade.

FULL TIME

Job done. A very professional second half sees City register a huge win ahead of Christmas.

Kevin de Bruyne ran the show, with Mahrez, Gundogan and Jesus cancelling out Vardy’s opener.

De Bruyne replaced

De Bruyne hobbles off, but seems to be okay and it’s hopefully just cramp.

Sergio Aguero makes his return from injury.

De Bruyne down

Kevin de Bruyne looks to have cramp.

Four minutes added on.

Running down the clock

Leicester know this game is over, and they seem to be conserving energy ahead of a Boxing Day clash with Liverpool.

City also use the final minutes to rest some legs, with Raheem Sterling replaced by Phil Foden.

WATCH: Jesus makes it three

Rodri on

Gundogan walks off to be replaced by Rodri.

Injury worry for City

Ilkay Gundogan is sat down and can’t continue. Rodri is coming on.

Final Leicester change

Dennis Praet replaces Youri Tielemans.

De Bruyne in the mood

What a performance this has been from Kevin de Bruyne.

Here, he takes a Benjamin Mendy pass in his stride to get past a defender then tries to loop a shot over Schmeichel from the left hand side. It’s pushed over the bar.

Great save Schmeichel

Riyad Mahrez looks to find the bottom corner but Kasper Schmeichel gets down well to deny him from the edge of the area.

A break in play

Harvey Barnes won’t be able to continue after his contact with Ederson during that last chance.

City have been more comfortable this second half, but Barnes’ effort shows Leicester are far from out of this one. He’s replaced by Marc Albrighton.

Let off

Jamie Vardy delivers a lovely cross into Harvey Barnes. Ederson puts just enough pressure on so Barnes doesn’t connect cleanly.

Wrong decision from De Bruyne

The first thing he’s done wrong all afternoon.

Kevin de Bruyne is one-on-one in a shooting position but opts to feed Raheem Sterling and Leicester clear.

The whistle goes for a foul, and De Bruyne earns a yellow card for his furious reaction at the decision.

Nice effort

Kevin de Bruyne stoops to flick on a Benjamin Mendy cross and Riyad Mahrez shoots wide on the half volley.

Lacked the finish

Raheem Sterling does well to change the pace and create an opening for Riyad Mahrez, but the Algerian’s shot rolls into the arms of Kasper Schmeichel.

Ndidi earns a booking

Kevin de Bruyne takes his second Leicester booking as he tempts Wilfred Ndidi into a foul.

Excellent half from City

That was an excellent half of football from City. They could have folded when they didn’t take advantage early on and conceded but they’ve come back with exactly the response required from champions.

If they can keep this up after the break, Guardiola should be very happy.
